Hello, how is everyone. My headset a Microsoft Like Chat one from radio shack just broke after 4 years of use. I am searching for a new one and wanted peoples input. I'm needing something comfortable to wear for long periods of time, a mic with good noise canselation, and I am willing to pay for what I get. I am running XP if that helps. Let me know.
I don't know the names of any, but I had a headset that lasted about 2 years which I used all the time and was quite good. I have seen better ones though. I think it depends what kind of price you're looking at paying. For example I got a skype headset a couple of years ago that cost just under 10£, but someone I know got a better one a few months ago with the really soft earpieces for about 30£.
And then there's the $79 Beyerdynamic MMX2, available with free shipping from Right here. If it's anything like the Beyerdynamic headphones I use, comfortable, I've worn them for seven hours strait before. If it's not, it's still an excellent sounding, well built headset based on designs for professional aircraft, that can run in either USB or analog mode.
Also it depends whether you want one with the separate headphone and microphone jacks, or one which just plugs into the USB port of your computer. The ones that plug into the USB port sometimes have a feature to separate say music or jaws from te person talking on skype, so one comes out of your computer speakers and the other comes out of your headphones.
I'd suggest the Logitech G35 USB Gaming Headset. It is kinda expensive at $130 even plus tax, but is worth it. I would advise when you install the software that you do not do it when the cd autorums. On the cd itself, there's a folder named drivers, under it is another folder named 32 bit. Install using that setup file. It will install only the driver and the software, no extras. I would also advise that you not allow the software to run on startup. You can do this using Startup Control Pannel. In Startup Control Pannel, you would disable the item from running on startup, but not delete it. Another thing, the Logitech software updater is accessible, but must be killed using the task manager, after it is done.
Keep in mind the the Beyer is A, less expensive, and B, made by a pro-audio company, not a computer company. It can also work both ways, as either a USB headset or one to plug into your sound card.
Hey, let me clarify a bit. I really will not spend more then like 60 dollars. I like usb because it is just plug and play.
Logitec has nice headphones for under $60 that work great. Next I'd check in to Plantronics. These you'll need to shop for however, because the better sets are pricey, but can be had for your price. All are plug and play except on Skype you'll have to adjust that depending on version. Most should be set on the application your using, but mostly as I said before will plug and play. These that have regular plugs are best for the plug and play simply because your using the sound card your computer is using and features. Good luck.
I respectfully disagree with the last poster. I'd say if you're gonna really go for a pair of headphones, and you're on a laptop, you can either keep the soundcard, or get an external soundcard. Your choice, I like my headset, because it is usb and does not rely on the soundcard. If you get an external soundcard, be ready to pay $80 or above for it. To the first poster, is this for a laptop or desktop?
if yo are looking for something around $60 the Plantronics DSP500 or DSP400 should suit you nice. I have heard good things about both and and have heard them used on some podcast via skype and they sound great. Check around on ebay and the other usual sites for best prices.
i love my clear chat pro headset, it's pushing your price range some but it's one of the best headsets i've seen, and works quite well
